Phoenix AZ, February 13, 2012:
On Thursday February 9th 2012, a Maricopa County jury returned a $7.8 million jury verdict against the State of Arizona and Arizona Department of Transportation in a roadway negligence case.
On August 19, 2007, the Glazer family from Southern California was returning home after dropping off their oldest daughter to start college at the U of A. As they approached Phoenix on I-10, on the Gila River Indian Reservation, an eastbound vehicle lost control, crossed the median and hit their van. There was no median barrier.
50-year old Michael Glazer and 6-year old Sydney Glazer died in the crash. Plaintiff Diana Glazer alleged that the State and ADOT were negligent for failing to provide a median barrier in this location and that a median barrier would have prevented the collision Nine months after Michael and Sydney Glazer died, two more people died in a crossover accident at the same location. A lawsuit based on that collision is pending. There is still no median barrier at this location.
