4th of July is just around the corner. Not only can it be an enjoyable holiday while watching fireworks in the sky, but it is actually one of the few holidays that has been known to have large amounts of fires caused due to people in-correctly using fireworks or were not prepared.
There is roughly more than $35,000,000 per year in fire damages nationally. These fires are due to fireworks, and decorations that are accented with fireworks. This ends up being expensive, not only for the government, and insurance companies, but also families who lose everything due to a fire. Even with insurance, families lose their private positions that may not be replicable or their lives.
Arizona has allowed fireworks to be sold to consumers, but many cities have banned or restricted fireworks completely. The Arizona Republic reports that most municipalities in the state of Arizona restrict the use of fireworks due to public-safety threats and fire dangers that are posed by fireworks. We can expect many 4th of July celebrations this weekend in the Valley and many good times. Just be sure to be familiar with Arizona fireworks laws if you want to avoid a criminal citation.
The city of Phoenix, for example, has a ban on the use of consumer fireworks. People who are found to be in violation of the city ban can reportedly be charged with a Class 1 misdemeanor. Penalties for a fireworks offense can include up to six months in jail and a fine up to $2,500.
Below are some tips on how to stay safe during this July 4th Holiday.
Stay hydrated and “cool”. Arizona is known for July to be one of its hottest months on the calendar. Stay hydrated with water and stay in cooler areas if possible. Remember, even though you’ll be out and about at night. The temps can still be in the triple digits.
If you’re going out with friends to celebrate the 4th, do it responsibility. Never drink and drive. It’s never a good mix and always have a designated driver with you. If you don’t there are plenty of taxis willing to take you home. Don’t risk the drive while drunk.
If you’re going to use fireworks, be sure to do it responsibly. Make sure the city you are in allows you to have them in the first place and make sure you are prepared with either a fire extinguisher, a water hose, or a bucket of water.
Now sit back and enjoy the holiday. Just do it responsibly. If you follow the tips above, you should have no problem with your holiday! Happy 4th of July everyone!
